We all have our own glass ceiling, the one we create that stops us from reaching our full potential. Yves had a glass ceiling too : speaking in front of a camera. Not only did Yves overcome that fear, he went over and beyond to form his public persona today. The Yves we know is charming, confident, and full of wit – but it was not always that way.

“For me, everything was a series of steps.” Yves started volunteering as a radio host at a community radio station. The first time was on a Sunday morning show. “The very first time I went, I smoked probably almost half a pack of cigarettes before I went in the studio and starting doing the live interviews because I was so nervous”, Yves says, “so it took a lot of courage for me to actually start doing it. By doing it and repeating it over and over, after 2 years when I actually started doing it professionally, I was ready.” He was still nervous at every session and it took years to grow comfortable and even confident in front of a camera.

Conquering the fear of speaking in public was another step. “People say ah you are able to speak in front of a camera it must be easy for you to speak in public, NO, it wasn’t.” Yves explains that speaking in public is not the same as speaking in front of the camera. “There are real eyeballs watching you.”

When we asked if Yves enjoyed the struggle, Yves says, “You NEVER enjoy the struggle. The struggle it’s like an athlete : do you love working out at the gym? I bet 90% of them would say : I don’t like it. But it prepares me to excel at the sport that I like.”
